How to acclimate your fish after shipping

Step 1. Check your fish to see if they are alive, acting normal, and healthy. (not upside down or struggling)

  • If the fish is dead on arrival or struggling. Please let us know asap by contacting us. You can email us at akumasaquatics@gmail.com or contact us on the site that you purchased. Please get a 10-second video and/or at least 3 pictures of the fish that are dead on arrival or struggling.
  • Make sure you take pictures and videos first before doing this or the DOA policies are voided. If the fish is struggling, compare the temperature of the bag water and the aquarium the fish is gonna be. If the temperature is similar just take the fish out and release it straight into the aquarium. It's better to get the fish into clean water as soon as possible.
  •

Step 2. The fish are double bagged, remove the outer bag and compare the temperature of the bag water and aquarium water. turn off your aquarium lights. let the fish in the bag float inside at the top of the aquarium. Let the temperature acclimate for 15 to 30 minutes depending on how different the temperature is to the touch.

Step 3. After letting the temperature in the bag get to a similar temperature as the aquarium, cut the bag and pour the fish and water into an empty bucket and net the fish only out and put the fish into the aquarium.

Step 4. Discard the dirty water and watch your fish. keep the light off until you believe the fish have adjusted to the aquarium.
